An African dating app with clear rules

On the big apps, you run into fake profiles and pushy messages, and when you report them, often nothing happens. Yaamo starts from the opposite. We know who is behind every profile, and the same rules apply to everyone.

What applies to every member

A selfie for every profile

Before appearing on Yaamo, every person takes a selfie. We compare it with their profile photos. If they don't match, the profile is not approved.

Reports handled within 24 hours

If someone disrespects you, you report them in the app. A moderator handles your report within 24 hours.

Example

No more than 3 unanswered messages

If you write to someone who doesn't reply, you can't write again after 3 messages, until they answer. Nobody gets flooded with messages.

Hi, how are you?

Did you see my message?

Hello?

Waiting for their reply

Example

The Oracle

The Oracle is an AI assistant that watches what happens on Yaamo and says very little. Ask it for advice about someone and it answers its own way: with a parable, a gentle “be careful” or something to check for yourself. Never gossip about a person.

A profile that says what matters

On Yaamo, every profile has at least three photos, age, city and country, marital status, number of children and a bio where people say who they are and what they're looking for. You know where you stand before you send the first message.

Then you choose what others see: your full profile, or only part of it.

Made for the African diaspora, open to all

Yaamo was created for the African diaspora in Europe, North and South America, and for French-speaking Africa. It's open to anyone looking for a serious relationship. Whether you live in London, Toronto, Atlanta, Paris or Brussels, or in Douala, Abidjan or Dakar, there's a place for you here.

Here, people take the time to talk

Hi! I saw you live in London too.

Yes, for six years now. Where are you from originally?

Douala. Your bio says you love cooking, is that true?

Frequently asked questions

What is Yaamo?

Yaamo is a serious dating app for the African diaspora. Every profile is verified with a selfie, and every report is handled by a moderator within 24 hours. The app is in development for iOS and Android, and the waitlist is open.

What do I get for signing up now?

At launch, everyone on the waitlist gets 3 months of premium free. You'll also hear about the launch before anyone else.

Are Yaamo and Chat&Yamo the same app?

No. Yaamo is an independent app with no connection to Chat&Yamo. Our name is spelled with two “a”s: Y-A-A-M-O.

How does Yaamo prevent fake profiles?

Everyone who signs up has to take a selfie. It is compared with their profile photos before the profile is approved. If they don't match, the profile is rejected.

What happens if someone harasses me?

You can report them directly in the app. A moderator handles every report within 24 hours. And if someone keeps writing without you replying, they can't send another message after the third one.

How can I tell if a dating app is serious?

First, check whether the app verifies profiles, and whether that check is required or only optional. Then make sure you can report behaviour easily and that the app says how quickly it responds. Finally, be wary of anyone who asks you for money, a code sent by text message or ID documents, whatever the app.

Is Yaamo only for Africans?

No. Yaamo is designed for the African diaspora, but it's open to everyone. The rules are the same for every member.

I live in Africa. Can I sign up?

Yes. Yaamo is also for people living in French-speaking Africa.

When does the app launch, and how much will it cost?

The launch date and pricing haven't been announced yet. The app will be available on iOS and Android. People on the waitlist will hear first.
